As a photographer who thrives on authenticity and connection, I recently had the pleasure of venturing on a creative little journey with my brother Samuel, the frontman of Melbourne band, Neon Goblin. Our mission? To capture his essence through a photoshoot blending 70s vibes with suburban charm.

Inspired by retro imagery, Samuel and I embraced a laid-back, comfy, and cozy aesthetic synonymous with the 70s. His quaint abode in Melbourne's Northcote became our playground, where we aimed to weave nostalgia & warmth, into every frame.

While the name might suggest otherwise, I don’t operate out of a traditional studio. This unconventional approach allows me to infuse intimacy and personal significance into each shoot. For me, photography isn't merely about capturing images; it's about forging connections and immortalising moments in spaces that resonate deeply.

Samuel's charming home, steeped in character and history, served as the heart of our shoot. Its old-world charm provided the perfect backdrop, effortlessly complementing the vintage-inspired aesthetic we aimed for.

To bring our vision to life, we experimented with both iPhone and 35mm film photography. Each camera and film type brought a unique perspective, adding depth and emotion to the narrative.

The lineup of cameras included the Film Never Die Niji, a classic Voigtlander Bessamatic, and the trusty Minolta Riva Zoom. As for film, I went with Kodak Pro Image 100, Dubblefilm Daily Colour 400, and Rollei Retro 400s

But wait, there’s more! Samuel’s collection of vintage coats and my borderline obsessive stash of sunglasses became the unsung heroes of our shoot, adding a little bit of sumthin' sumthin' to the shoot!

It was amazing to see how a cosy home in Northcote, a genuine connection, and a few cool pieces of clothing could come together to create something truly special. Soooooo happy with how the photos turned out, proof that you don't need much more than a bit of creativity and the right company to make magic happen.
